Sachiko M, a musician, utilizes sampler as musical instrument --- that is, she manipulates its internal test tones to play music. Refusing melodious phrases, she brings into prominence not only the mecanically pure sound but also the slight modulation of tone and a variety of noises filling the concert room. In this sense, her performance can be seen as a radical essay to trace back to the origin of music. This style developed by her personal ideas and professional experiences as sound engineer is considered unique and original among those of other contemporary musicians.
Exploring the relationship between music and sound, Sachiko M, in this installation, tries to create an auditory environment where we can perceive sounds transform into music. Beyond the category of musicien, she will invite us to partake of a new sound experience.
Sachiko M has been giving a lot of concerts in Europe, especially in France. This show will be the first opportunity to see her sound installation work in France.

Profile:
Since 1994, Sachiko M has been active as a sampler player involved in the cut-up mouvement. In 1998, in a drastic departure from that approach, she originated the revolutionary method of manipulating the sampler's internal test tones, namely sine waves. With the 2000 release of "Sine Wave Solo", her solo recording consisting entirely of sine waves, she became the focus of intense interest on the international scene, including European music festivals and Britain's Wire magazine.Since then she's been active in a number of projects, including the experimental electronic music duo "Filament" and the electronics trio "I. S. O." Two of the solo projetcs she's currently working on are the live performance series "Bar Sachiko" and the sound installation "I'm Here". Sachiko M's radical stance consistently draws interest and provokes debate.
